UAW Local 211

GRANDPARENT/GRANDCHILDREN DAY 2019

On Thursday, June 27 the UAW Maulfair Park was filled with children, young adults, parents and grandparents. They were there to participate in the first ever Grandparent/Grandchildren Day sponsored by the UAW Local 211 Retirees.
It was a very warm afternoon, but it did not faze the kids. It was great to see them having fun enjoying the park with family and friends. It has been a while since an event like this has taken place. It took the cooperation and work by several to make this day happen.
First, I want to thank the vendors who worked with us to change dates, due to the weather. Second, Our UAW retiree members and family who volunteered to set up, serve and clean up; they did an awesome job! I want to recognize and give a special thanks to Lisa and Ivan Burgei. They helped with repairs and painting the restrooms, playground rides, ordering food and supplies, contacting vendors and worked all day at the event; thank you Lisa and Ivan for a job well done.
Thanks should also go to the Local 211 executive board members that helped with the painting of the restrooms and picking up sticks and debris. Special thanks to Gary Brown and Keith Boecker for all the time they put in to get the park ready for us. A thanks also goes to Steve Renn for bringing out his pressure washer to ready the restrooms for painting.
The Defiance County Senior Center’s Tina Hiler and her daughter served ice cream with toppings. Everyone so much appreciated them. Lily Creek Farms provided the horse and buggy ride and Art Me Ohio did the face painting. Both were a hit as the lines never stopped. If you were involved in planning an event, I highly recommend you contact them.
Our county nurse, Katie, who comes to our monthly retiree meetings and gives blood pressure checks, brought the Ohio State Patrol with her and set up an auto safety check and demonstrated the proper installation of the child safety seats; Awesome job Katie.
